The 40th UNESCO World Heritage Committee Meeting was held in Istanbul 10‐ 17th of July 2016. Sustainable Development was one of the key agenda items that found large attention in many different platforms. One such activity was a side event organized by the UNESCO Chair on the Management and Promotion of World Heritage Sites at Kadir Has University, which took place on the 14th of July at 13.00 – 15.00 pm, specifically dealing with the Integration of the Sustainable Development into the processes of the World Heritage Convention. In this meeting the role of the academia and UNESCO Chairs was explored.
