The UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites of Università della Svizzera italiana become member of the European Network of Knowledge (EUNeK), a network on Universities for the Via Francigena and the European Pilgrimage Ways, leaded by the European Association of Via Francigena (AEVF). EUNeK represents the Scientific Committee of AEVF, with the task of fostering multicultural dialogue through scientific research and exchange of best practices, in support of didactic and research activities on the Via Francigena and other European pilgrimage routes.

Dr. Silvia De Ascaniis of the UNESCO Chair at USI participated in the second meeting of EUNeK, which took place on Friday, December 3rd, 2014 in Florence. More info about EUNeK and AEVF can be found here.

 

Following the meeting, from 4th to 6th December, the conference “The European Pilgrimage Routes for promoting sustainable and quality tourism in rural areas” was held, where issues related to the potential of pilgrimage routes to promote sustainable tourism in European rural destinations and promoting local culture were discussed.
